Mariposa: UK Spring Tour Postponed
In an abundance of caution, and for the safety of our dancers, team, audience and participants, DeNada Dance Theatre will postpone the spring 2020 UK tour of its new production, Mariposa, due to the current Coronavirus Covid-19 situation.
True to our commitment to fostering cultural links between the UK and the Hispanic world, a considerable part of the cast and creative team for Mariposa is Spanish, and was residing in Spain during the outbreak of the virus and at the time of the country declaring state of emergency on Saturday March 14. Due to the government restricting all travel in and out of the country, citizens being asked to remain in isolation, and the high level of infection in cities like Madrid and Valencia, where our team members reside, as well as current advice from UK authorities to avoid public gatherings, theatres, etc, the company does not consider it safe or viable for the project to continue.
We have therefore postponed all our spring 2020 rehearsals, performances and outreach activities to autumn 2020. Our new tour dates are as follows:
Birmingham, DanceXchange (World Premiere): Oct 1- 2 // www.dancexchange.org.uk
Salford, The Lowry: Nov 2 // www.thelowry.com
Leeds, Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre at Northern Ballet: Dec 8 // www.theatreleeds.com
If you currently hold a ticket for the postponed performances in March and April 2020, please contact the venue directly. Your tickets can be exchanged for the new performance dates via the theatre’s Box Office.
If you cannot make the new performance dates, DeNada Dance Theatre would like to kindly ask you to consider supporting the arts and independent artists, including the future creation and touring of Mariposa, by donating the ticket price, or whatever you can afford, to the company, via our Ko-Fi fundraising page: www.ko-fi.com/denadadt.
Our previously announced tour dates for autumn 2020- Déda Derby (Oct 17) and at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Dance South West (Oct 29) will go ahead as planned. DeNada will announce further tour dates for autumn 2020 as well as for spring 2021 soon, so please stay tuned for further information.
The cast, creatives and team of DeNada’s Mariposa are deeply saddened by this unfortunate but necessary decision, but look forward to sharing this exciting new production with audiences across the UK in autumn 2020.
We would like to use this opportunity to encourage social awareness and responsibility, and ask our audiences to take all precautions possible against the spread of Coronavirus Covid-19 as advised by the World Health Organisation: https://www.who.int/health-topics/coronavirus
